Post-operative eye care

Common instructions after cataract surgery and LASIK.

Important:These are general patient instructions. Your surgeon's written prescription, drop schedule and follow-up advice should always take priority.

After cataract surgery

Follow the eye-drop schedule and review dates given by your surgeon. These are common precautions patients are usually advised after cataract surgery.

  • Use prescribed eye drops exactly as instructed; wash hands before touching the bottle.
  • Do not rub or press the operated eye, even if there is watering, mild irritation, or foreign-body sensation.
  • Wear the protective eye shield or glasses as advised, especially while sleeping in the early recovery period.
  • Avoid splashing water directly into the eye, swimming, dusty exposure, and eye makeup until cleared by the doctor.
  • Avoid heavy lifting, bending with strain, and strenuous exercise in the initial recovery phase.
  • Call the clinic urgently for increasing pain, sudden vision drop, marked redness, pus-like discharge, injury, or flashes and floaters.

After LASIK or spectacle-removal laser

LASIK recovery is usually fast, but the cornea still needs protection, lubrication, and follow-up. Use the medication plan given after the procedure.

  • Use antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, and lubricating drops as prescribed; do not stop drops early without medical advice.
  • Do not rub the eyes. Rubbing can disturb healing and should be avoided even if the eyes feel dry or itchy.
  • Use sunglasses outdoors and avoid dusty, smoky, or windy environments in the early healing period.
  • Avoid swimming, eye makeup, contact sports, and direct water pressure on the eyes until your doctor allows it.
  • Screen use is allowed gradually if comfortable, but take frequent breaks and use lubricating drops as advised.
  • Call promptly for worsening pain, increasing redness, sudden blur, light sensitivity, discharge, or any injury to the eye.

Eye care questions

Answers for cataract, LASIK, follow-up and urgent eye symptoms.

When should I book an eye consultation?

Book an eye consultation for blurred vision, cloudy vision, frequent change in glasses power, redness, watering, eye pain, floaters, flashes, diabetes, high blood pressure or suspected cataract.

Does Aashray provide cataract and phaco consultation?

Yes. Aashray provides cataract evaluation, phaco with IOL planning, lens-option discussion and post-operative follow-up guidance.

Can I consult for LASIK or spectacle removal?

Yes. LASIK screening includes power stability, corneal suitability, dry-eye review and counselling on realistic outcomes before advising laser vision correction.

What precautions are usually advised after cataract surgery?

Patients are usually advised to use prescribed eye drops, avoid rubbing or pressing the eye, protect the operated eye, avoid direct water splash, dust, swimming, heavy strain, and attend scheduled follow-up visits.

What symptoms after cataract surgery need urgent attention?

Call the clinic or seek urgent eye care for increasing pain, sudden drop in vision, marked redness, pus-like discharge, injury, flashes, floaters, or any symptom that feels worse instead of better.

What precautions are usually advised after LASIK?

After LASIK, patients are usually advised to use prescribed drops, avoid rubbing the eyes, use sunglasses outdoors, avoid dust and smoke, avoid swimming and eye makeup initially, and attend follow-up as advised.

Can I use screens after LASIK?

Screen use is usually restarted gradually if comfortable, but dryness is common. Take frequent breaks and use lubricating drops as advised by the doctor.

Is cataract surgery painful?

Modern phaco cataract surgery is commonly planned as a painless, stitchless procedure with anaesthesia drops or local anaesthesia depending on the case. Suitability and recovery expectations are discussed during consultation.

Do diabetic patients need an eye check before cataract or LASIK decisions?

Yes. Diabetes can affect the retina and healing, so diabetic patients should have retinal evaluation and sugar-control discussion before surgical or laser decisions.
